It was a long wait for the snow and we finally got it, and it is in February. May be we should call it first Sesquicentennial snow storm. It has been snowing, snowing and snowing all day and it is still snowing. I didn’t come out to shovel the snow in the morning or lunch time. Some of our neighbours did it already twice, or three times by then.

I and Matthew watched the falling snow from each window in our house today. Snow drifts formed on our garage roof and at the entrance. Our BBQ height doubled. We watched neighbours bundled up and shoveling the snow. Few minutes later their tracks were covered.

Neighbour Shoveling Snow, Snowstorm in Aurora, Ontario

We watched neighbours helping each other. A man across the street shoveled his and the neighbour’s driveway for at least one. Then in the afternoon the other neighbour came from work and shoveled both driveways.

Another man, further up the street, shoveled his and his neighbours driveway. The lady arrived on the cleaned driveway then later she came out and shovel both driveways.

A man next door shoveled his driveway and then cleaned up our sidewalk as well.

Later before dinner I came out and I only lasted for 15 minutes. Snow in front of our porch was up to my knees. Snowplow came twice and formed snow pile in front of our driveway at least 24 inches high.

We are very blessed to live in such a nice neighborhood where everyone is willing to help – I watched it all day long. Then later when my husband was shoveling the snow, a neighbour with his son helped. May be this is why we never moved, it is not just the house, it is a good neighbour.

Now to change a topic a bit. Here are some pictures that show ‘dressing up for the art’. Last year during SOYRA showcase I took many pictures and not even realizing I took some color to person matching photos.

I think you can figure out for yourself looking at the following three photos, themed with red shades, blue shades and black shades.

Happy Snow Day!

Where is the snow? The Christmas snow is now gone due to higher than normal temperatures. Last night I heard rain again pounding against the window. It isn’t a good thing for us. If the wind changes its course from normal direction and will start to blow towards front of our house we will get water leak inside the house. We have damaged shingles on the roof that means another potential leak. If the mild weather stays, the flu season is not going away.

I looked outside the window this afternoon. It was a very moody day, no sun and sprinkles of very little snow dancing in the wind. Yes we had little sun this holiday season. Just watch the price of the Vitamin D will rise on demand.

We got a call from a doctor for Matthew. Pneumonia still shows on the x-ray, that means another week of antibiotics, doctor visit and possible third x-ray to fill. No school for Matthew. He is sick but he has no issue cheering for no school days. Hopefully he will be good going back again after a lengthy break. Well, we also got news that our doctor is now sick.

Mini Snowman, A Day Before Christmas 2012

So when we had snow we made a snowman. To emphasize how little snow we had while making little fella – the snowman’s head is size of a normal snowball and he is about twelve inches high. Very easy to miss, and he will be missed – he melted few days ago. Completely to the ground.

This will be a definitely interesting Sesquicentennial year for Aurora not just for events, politics but weather patterns as well.

Just in case you have not seen yet, I have few things for you.

Our community FOCUS page now has Sesquicentennial focus page set up to feature topics related to 150th Anniversary of the Town of Aurora. It is also a great opportunity for us to show some not the old 100 years old photos, but photos that are only 15 years old or less. Nice recap for those who have been hanging out around Aurora for only 15 or 20 years. Remember it is 150 years of Aurora and every year matters.

I have also assembled together a Parent Zone page for parents who wants to occasionally write.

Lastly, I also started a legacy project for the Town of Aurora called documenting Aurora. The name says it all.

Reading, reading and reading. The concept of library was the best thing ever could happen to us – and we are lucky to have one of a good size here in Aurora. The cold winter days do keep me more inside, so to fill some of my time (I usually don’t have) I read.

Hamilton Park, St. John's Sideroad on the Far Back, Aurora

For some interesting reason in the past couple of months books about the Civil War would always land in my hands – and I don’t resist. John Wilson better gear up and start writing more – I just finished reading ‘the flags of war‘. I shall look for more, yet I doubt, this may have been last from his collection of books.

After reading his books which are usually based on historic facts, the ‘personal‘ wars we often encounter among us just seems like nothing. In most books Wilson’s characters start with great enthusiasm to go and fight in the battlefield but when too much is too much, they all end up dreaming of the escape from the dreadful images of the war.

Hamilton Park, St. John's Sideroad on the Far Back, Aurora

Last night I was working late. Blogging wasn’t an option. But I did and I read some posts and blog comments. The frozen rain and the wind send chills over my spine. Feeling of joy being inside and appreciation for the warmth whereas some may not have the same did cross my mind.

In the wake of the day, one might wonder what weather is going to be today. It was icy on the roads in the early morning. But after eleven o’clock a five inch blanket of snow was there for us to enjoy. With not having lot of snow this year, this seems like a first snow of the season, but it is not, .

Today it was wet enough to make a snowman, and wet enough to break your back if you are not fit to lift the snow. We managed. We managed to have fun at the playground as well. Snow at the playground makes an interesting visit. Change a scenery and children will discover more things to do.

Hamilton Park, Playground, Aurora

What is the point here? Well, what ever you want to think – you are the observer and reader.

For me, just for the record – it was snowing today.
