Look out for the Rotary Park new look on the Gurnett Street. Back in May 2011 I took some pictures of the park, but I never got to take the side on the Gurnett Street. Oh well. Hopefully there will be more makeover on the otherside, then I can compare.

Rotary Park Entrance from Gurnett Street

So what is new for now. The regular ‘double plank green with yellow print‘ sign has been removed and replaced with engraved stone base sign sitting in the flower bed with a new metal bench beside. The stone work and path to the bridge looks new.

Tree Plaque

Not sure if the plaque before the tree is new or not, but as you can see someone already had a bad day dropping paint bomb on it.

Rotary Park Bridge, Gurnett Street

On the other side of the bridge you can see that either the bench was replaced or repainted, and again a red paint bomb. I cannot believe some can be so inconsidereate.

A Bench, Rotary Park

I think so far the makeover is really looking great. Well done! The front of the park is really looking nice and elegant. The stone engraved signs do add a character to the park.

There will be more according to The Auroran article ‘Rotary will pay to improve park‘:

‘According to Mr. Downey, the Rotary Club will continue with additional upgrades in the park over the next two years of landscape enhancements.

Enhancements under the plan include new benches, a updated formal new look to the Gurnett Street entrance to the park, as well as what is described as a “formal plaza and seating area” which will be improved with planting beds, stonework, and a new walkway with decorative paved inserts, which may include the logo for Rotary International.

Spansorship opportunities could also be available in the park upgrade process including benches with dedication plaques, a large dedication stone, sponsored tree plantings marked with plates, and vertical stone pieces with sponsorship plates.’

My comment from the first post still stands. I hope that more of future work on the park will continue to keep the park’s natural looking component. I just hate to see it to be over crowded with signs.

I never knew about the Rotary Park in Aurora. Soon as I read that it will be having a makeover, I jump the wagon with my camera to take some pictures. Okay okay, I was driven by my husband to check the park out – my personal driver so I can handle the camera. I love parks and I am planning to explore them all in Aurora.

According to The Auroran article ‘Rotary will pay to improve park‘ [Week of May 17, 2011 Issue, pg 8], the park is the oldest park in Aurora. The park runs from Gurnett Street to Cousins Drive. Furthermore, The Auroran failed to tell me that it is also a very beautiful park in deed. Not to give out any encouragement, but if I was going to get married again, I probably take my wedding photos there.

Rotary Park, Town of Aurora

Like I said the park is beautiful and magical. Yes benches could be replaced, but the trees and flora is so natural looking. We drove by during a rainy day, and it was just so green there. I didn’t really go in, because we had to head out home for lunch, but I snapped some pictures from outside. After all if it is getting a facelift, then we must have before and after photos. Hope that the future facelift will keep the natural looking component of the park. However, I am planning to go back inside, just to be sure that the park’s beauty remains within.

Rotary Park, Town of Aurora

Aha, Rotary Park? Interesting name, so I did some research. There was something I did not know I must admit – what is the function of Rotary Club of Aurora? You will actually find out reading my blog, how much stuff I don’t know still. But then some of us only lived here for 10 years and travel long distances for work. How much time do you get to see your town if you on the road all the time? Working close to home these days is a dream job, and I am fortunate to have the dream job for few more years until my little bird goes to school, my Matthew.

Rotary Park, Town of Aurora

So I did some research on the Rotary Club. I must say I am very impressed by their community portfolio.

‘Our community projects have included placing defibrillators on the local fire trucks, providing computers to schools for disabled students, and sponsoring a park and walking trail. We help with blood donor clinics, run social bingos at seniors homes, and support community activities, organizations, and events including the local hospitals, the Salvation Army, awards for high school students, a camp to develop business skills in high school students, and a youth leadership program. We also target assistance specifically to the disabled or those in need.

Some of our recent tasks are:

Our club donated $100,000 to the construction of the Aurora Public Library, and the rounded part of the library is now called the Rotarium. We also paid for the fully accessible playground at Public school . We paid for the trophy case in the Aurora Leisure Complex. In 2008, we donate $30,000 to the Southlake Regional Cancer Centre.‘ Source: Rotary Club of Aurora.

Rotary Park, Town of Aurora

It pays to be curious and to ask questions. Hope you learned something new with me today.

‘Curiosity is the very basis of education and if you tell me that curiosity killed the cat, I say only the cat died nobly.‘ ~ a quote by Arnold Edinborough.
