I am sure everyone has a story to tell about, I call, the unknown. It is unknown to me and I don’t want to know what it is. Feelings are strange, and it scares me. I don’t like it. For now I prefer the real people, yet the unknown sometimes likes to hang around me.

I am not sure if this is best story to tell, but this is the only one I have that pertains to Aurora and good for Halloween.

July 29, 2011 few days before the Petch House was going to taken apart I dropped by the place to see the progress. I made many visits to the site, especially before its final moments before restoration. That day was interesting one. It was a nice and comfortable day. I didn’t take many pictures as during my previous visits. For some reason I just wanted to be there. I think I developed personal attachment to this house. I felt it.

Around 11:25 am I started to head for home. I was about 0.5 km away from the Petch house and pulled over. I have decided to take just a few more pictures of the house before its new journey that was sitting alone in the field, and I did.

Later that afternoon I downloaded and reviewed all the pictures. A mysterious streak of gray on the left top corner of the photo appeared on one of the images when I was quickly viewing them. I went back and examined, but I couldn’t tell what it was. It got me thinking how it got there.

I took four photos in 2 seconds with my Canon 7D, and the second photo showed the streak. I tried to reason. May be some kind of light distortion. May be bug flew by. May be airplane left smoke behind (flying club near by). May be dirt on my lens. May be wind blew something. May be it was my hair. No I had it secured in the pony tail.

None of the above made sense. Oh well I will never know I thought. That afternoon I left it to be as an unsolved mystery.

Something There, Petch House


I would never thought of this being a some kind of ghost photographed but when things were kind of strange later … it left me with some scary conclusions.

Hours later, the same night about 2 am in the morning Matthew woke up scared. He started to move strangely, pushing something away from his body. Screamed for light to be put on. Kept crying and when stopped to cry he was pushing something away from his body again. He was stiff, spooked and not himself.

He definitely wanted it to go away. I was getting getting spooked myself, and my husband was in ‘just let me sleep please‘.

Last time I saw him like that was when his grandfather passed away when he was only three months old. That day for about 10 minutes he was crying on and off, stiff, spooked and not himself too. I could not snuggle him at all.

It happened again. This time he was older and was feeling or seeing something. Looking beyond us. We all moved to another room. He kept pushing away something again. We tried to go under covers as it was kind of cold but he was moving so much that we just decided to wait it out. We left the lights on and were like that for good 45 minutes until he finally relaxed, snuggled and in a nick of time he went to sleep.

It never happened again since then. Just that one night. Coincidentally it was hours apart between ‘something on the photo‘ and when Matthew got the nightmare. Children sometimes sens more than us adults, and may be he did.

But what? I don’t know. May be it was nothing and may be it was something. I will leaver readers to decided.

If according to the article ‘the cemetery was laid out 11 years ago …’, then taking into consideration the newspaper age it must have been from 1927 or 1930s. I am trying to figure out the real name, as different sources call the pet cemetery Happy Woodlawn, and some Happy Woodland. On the end does it really matter.

Dewitt Miller that I stumbled upon and the local article to connect the two to find out that Mr. and Mrs. Blochin were the owners of the Bencruachan Kennnels and a couple who started the first pet cemetery in Canada here in Aurora.

According to the author the pet cemetery was called Happy Woodland. However to my further search the name seemed to be Happy Woodlawn, that is according to the local newspaper articles.
